The EUROPARQUE is situated in the Greater Porto area. Porto, which
inspired the name Portugal, and which was the cradle of the Infante
D. Henrique has been a World Heritage Site since 1996. It is the
second city in the country, with 300 000 inhabitants and the heart
of a metropolitan area full of vitality, with a population of about
1 200 000.
From the journey along the river Douro,
to the beaches of the Atlantic, Porto has breathtaking scenery
to offer the visitor.
A strong focal point is the whole of the Douro wine producing
region, which is also a World Heritage Site. The famous Port
wine is produced here, and we recommend, especially, the wine
tours, with visits to the cellars, where this drink ages for
years in hundred year-old casks.
Porto is also the gateway to an overwhelmingly
green region: the Minho, where ancient monuments, manor houses
and traditional churches abound, and one can really appreciate
the gastronomy, the internationally renowned wines from the
vinho verde demarcated region, as well as local crafts and other
cultural aspects.
There are other interesting tourist spots
near the EUROPARQUE which cannot be missed. Among them are the
Santa Maria da Feira Castle, a fine example of medieval military
architecture from the 11th to 16th Centuries.
Closely linked to the birth of the nation, it is a place where
you can feel the weight of history and where popular imagination
is revisited in its memory the past.
